EWC Cell Phone Usage Policies & Procedures
Edward Waters College provides cellular telephones, as approved by the Division Vice President, the Vice President of Business & Finance and the President of Edward Waters College, to full-time and part-time employees as a business tool. You must submit a justification statement for your request of a cell phone. Cell phones are provided to assist employees in communicating effectively with other employees and outside clients/vendors as deemed necessary. We would encourage all cell phone users to use the Direct Connect feature on your phone and only use cell minutes if absolutely necessary. All Customer Service calls should be directed to the IT Solution Center, X8170 during the hours of 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines regarding the use of and responsibilities required as a Edward Waters College cell phone user. Cell phones that are purchased through the IT Dept. are the property of Edward Waters College. The primary use of the telephone is for college-related business. Personal use of an assigned cellular phone is prohibited. NOTE: Under no circumstances should the Edward Waters College assigned cellular phone be used as a replacement for a personal cell phone or residential landline phone.
Edward Waters College’s Internet and e-mail use policy
Edward Waters College provides its users with Internet access and electronic communications services as required for the performance and fulfillment of job responsibilities. Users must understand that this access is for the purpose of increasing productivity and not for non-business activities. Users must also understand that any connection to the Internet offers an opportunity for non-authorized users to view or access corporate information. Therefore, it is important that all connections be secure, controlled, and monitored. To this end, users in Edward Waters College should have no expectation of privacy while using company-owned or company-leased equipment. Information passing through or stored on company equipment can and will be monitored. Users should also understand that Edward Waters College maintains the right to monitor and review Internet use and e-mail communications sent or received by users as necessary.
Permitted Use
The Internet connection and e-mail system of Edward Waters College is primarily for business use. Occasional and reasonable personal use is permitted, provided that this does not interfere with the performance of work duties and responsibilities. Users may use Edward Waters College’s Internet services for personal improvement, outside of scheduled hours of work, provided that such use is consistent with professional conduct and is not for personal financial gain. Users may send and receive e-mail attachments that do not exceed 2 MB in size, provided that all attachments are scanned before they are opened by Edward Waters College’s chosen anti-virus software. Users may send and receive short text messages with no enclosures for non-business purposes. Edward Waters College requests that the personal e-mail not be read in the office and that any personal e-mail you receive be forwarded to a non-business account to be viewed at your leisure.

Violations
Violations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If it is determined that a user has violated one or more of the above use regulations, that user will receive a reprimand from his or her supervisor and his or her future use will be closely monitored. If a gross violation has occurred, management will take immediate action. Such action may result in losing Internet and/or e-mail privileges, severe reprimand, or termination of employment at Edward Waters College. Your signature indicates that you have read Edward Waters College’s Internet and e-mail use policy and will abide by the rules and regulations set forth in the above policy.Violations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
