Institutional Review Board


Mission:

The mission of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to ensure that human and animal subjects used in research are protected. The IRB is responsible for reviewing and approving all research with human and animal subjects conducted by faculty, staff, and students of Edward Waters College, when performed as part of their work or study at EWC. The IRB reviews proposed studies to ensure that the dignity, rights, privacy, safety, and welfare of all actual and potential research participants are protected; provides reassurance to others that appropriate research activity is being carried out; and examines the method in which informed consent is to be sought.

Meeting Times:

The IRB meets at least twice a semester on or near these dates: September 1, October 15, November 15, January 10, March 15, and May 15.
November and May meetings serve as “wrap up” meetings for final approval of applications.

Application Deadlines:


Fall: Applications that need to be approved before January 1 should be submitted no later than October 15. Applications submitted less than ten days prior to this meeting date cannot be guaranteed consideration the same semester. Full committee review shall take no less than two weeks. Expedited review may be granted at the discretion of the committee.

Spring: Applications that need to be approved before May 1 should be submitted no later than March 15.  Applications submitted less than ten days prior to this meeting date cannot be guaranteed consideration the same semester. Full committee review shall take no less than two weeks. Expedited review may be granted at the discretion of the committee.
