EWC to Launch 2012-2013 Concert Series Sept. 6
Edward Waters College will open its 2012-2013 Concert Series on Sept. 6 with a recital performed by renowned pianist Chia-Ching Shen.
Shen, a native of Taiwan, is a distinguished pianist who has given performances in Europe, the United States and Taiwan. She also is the recipient of numerous awards for her performances at competitions such as the Florida State University Doctoral Concerto Competition, the YAMAHA National Piano Competition, the 13th International Beethoven Sonata Piano Competition, the National Taiwan Piano Competition and more.
“Chia-Ching Shen is known for charming audiences with dazzling techniques and musical artistry,” said Dr. Michelle Huang, assistant professor of piano at EWC. “The audience can look forward to Shen taking them on a musical journey from East to West, through works from renowned Chinese and Classical composers such as Debussy and Bussoni.”
Shen holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance from FSU and owns a private studio in New York. She also serves at Montclair State University as a collaborative pianist.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in EWC’s Milne Auditorium. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
The EWC Concert Series was created to expose students and the community to a variety of dynamic performances from high-caliber artists from throughout the world. It was also designed to motivate music students to enhance their performance skills and inspire habits of musical excellence. Additionally, the series serves to educate audiences of all generations on the importance of supporting music, locally and abroad, as part of a greater initiative of preserving and expanding the fine arts.
