EWC Hosts Third Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters College hosted its third annual Celebrity Golf Tournament April 8 at Deerwood Country Club in support of the EWC Annual Fund.
The tournament attracted nearly 100 golfers from Jacksonville and throughout the country, including celebrities such as Calvin Peete, Marco Coleman, Leto Sheppard and Mark Duper.
While playing through the course, golfers were presented with two opportunities to win a luxury vehicle from Nimnicht Chevrolet/Buick/GMC by sinking a hole-in-one on a par three. Afterward, golfers enjoyed a buffet-style lunch while perusing through more than 30 silent auction and raffle items.
Local media celebrity Steve Wrigley, sports anchor for local Fox/CBS affiliate Action News, hosted the awards luncheon and announced the winners. Last year’s low gross winners Rick Cannington, Adrian Evans, James White and Justin Jones clinched the low gross award for the second time.
EWC would like to thank Birdie Sponsors Allstate Construction and the Jacksonville Jaguars for donating $2,500 to make the tournament a success. Additional sponsors included the Gary Financial Group, Sodexo, UF Shands Jacksonville, and the Brennan, Manna and Diamond Law Firm.
“The golfers really enjoyed the chance to get out on the course to support the College,” said Blake Hacht, director of external relations. “We value the relationships we have built through this tournament, and we are looking forward to continuing this great event for years to come.”
