Dr. Noor M. Kamrul Islam
Dr. Noor M. Kamrul Islam is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Edward Waters College. He joined the College in 2007, having previously taught at Bloomsburg University, North Carolina State University, and Shaw University CAPE Center. Dr. Islam received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Geography from Dhaka University (Dhaka, Bangladesh); his Master of Arts in Sociology from East Carolina University (Greenville, N.C.); and his Doctorate in Sociology from North Carolina State University (Raleigh, N.C.). His dissertation is titled Patron-Client Culture in Bangladesh and the Resulting Weak State and Stubborn Socio-Economic Stagnation.
In July 2009, Dr. Islam participated in the Second Workshop on Bangladesh Social Enterprise Project. The project was a joint venture between the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, Foundation for Development Cooperation of Australia, Libra Adviser Group of the United Kingdom, and sponsored by the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom.
Dr. Islam is a member of The Triangle South Asia Consortium (N.C.), American Sociological Association, Bangladesh Geographical Association, and Wakaguzi Forum of Jacksonville, focusing on African studies and development.
