Dr. Anita Mandal Hosts Florida Sea Grant/Elise B. Newell Seminar Series Jacksonville, Fla. – On Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Hatcher-Stewart, Room 208, Dr. Anita Mandal, Assistant professor of Biology, will host Dr. Pradip Biswas as part of the Florida Sea Grant/Elise B. Newell Seminar Series. His topic is Estrogen Like Activity of Seafood: An Understanding of the Occurrence and Relevant Health Issues Through Atomistic Simulation. Dr. Pradip Biswas is an Assistant professor of Physics at Tougaloo College, Miss. He was born in India, received his B.S. in Physics from the University of Calcutta and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Jadavpur University, India. The main focus of his research is to investigate the reaction mechanisms and transition states of proteins and a molecular level understanding of protein absorption of polymer surfaces. Dr. Biswas has a number of ongoing research projects, including a study of the role of calcium binding proteins in impairing the binding of estrogen-estrogen receptors to DAN and therefore preventing ER-alpha-dependent transcription as it applies to breast cancer.
