About the Program

The Community Integration Training Program at Edward Waters University (CITP-EWU) is a program offered through the Department of Natural, Social and Behavioral Sciences.  Housed in the area of Psychology CITP is the result of a HSRA Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training for Paraprofessionals (BHWET) grant.  This program is funded in part by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant number 6M01HP42504-01-01.

The CITP at EWU training program is a Florida Certification Board (FCB) approved Education Provider that is qualified to offer the Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) and Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) content specific training for students seeking a CAP and CAC designation.  For more information regarding the CAP and CAC, please visit Florida Certification Board’s (FCB) webpage at https://flcertificationboard.org/.

Each academic year, this grant will support a limited number of financial awards to undergraduate and certificate-seeking students committed to working with substance use/dependency and/or high-risk youth in rural and medically underserved Florida communities. The full grant award is for four years in the amount of $1,620,493.

Training Program Information, Application, and Requirements

The CAP (350 hrs.) and CAC (270 hrs.) trainees will complete competency training hours in the domains of Clinical Evaluation; Treatment Planning; Counseling; Case Management and Referral; Client, Family and Community Education; Documentation; and Professional. In addition, learn about trauma-informed care and integrating behavioral health.

The CAP designation is a professional substance abuse credential for those persons working in a licensed drug treatment program in Florida.

The CAC is an intermediate practice credential for people who work side-by-side with clinical staff to provide services to individuals with substance use conditions.

  • Community Partner employees who meet requirements are eligible to apply for the CITP Paraprofessional Funding Program for the 2021-2022 academic year:

    1. Preference is given to the community partner employees who are Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS).
    2. Complete and submit the online application.
    3. Must be 18 years or older
    4. Must be able to pass a level two background check.

    All coursework is online and self-paced. All coursework must be completed within 12 months. 

    Recipients receive a $5k stipend, tuition waiver of $2850, making the program free for the awardees.

    If you are not a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) at a community partner organization and are interested in participating in the CITP at EWU, please complete and submit the application.

  • Community Rehabilitation Center, Daniels, Edward Waters University- Psychology w/ Addictions students only, Florida Recovery School, FSCJ- Human Service Students only, Gateway, Lutheran Service Florida, Northwest Behavioral Health LSF, and River Region
     

If a student is selected and chooses to accept the HRSA Paraprofessional Funding, they must:

  • Successfully complete all required undergraduate or certificate coursework and program requirements.
  • Apply for a certificate through the appropriate granting agency: Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) or Certified Addictions Counselor Certificate (CAC) Florida Certification Board (FCB).

Seek employment in the addiction’s community in Florida and provide the program with the relevant job information.
